According to CBS News, the U.S. Army was conducting a training exercise for medical evacuation by helicopter when an unforeseen accident between two aircraft took place while there were nine military people on board. At the time of the event, night vision goggles were being used to conduct “multi-ship formation” maneuvers, and Brigadier General John Lubas stated that having five people in one helicopter and four in the other is “fairly typical”; nonetheless, the cause is still unknown.
Neighbors close to the scene of a recent accident said that Blackhawks training drills frequently take place nearby. On the night of the collision, Nick Tomaszewski did observe something unusual: the Blackhawks were flying considerably lower and closer together than normal.
