Millions of Americans are feeling the pinch as inflation rises to previously unheard-of heights. It is encouraging to see that President Joe Biden is now working to aid government employees who are struggling financially. This will go a long way toward assisting the many people and families who are struggling to make ends meet.
The President unveiled an ambitious budget proposal for fiscal 2024 on Thursday that put a lot of work into helping and empowering Americans. He has shown his dedication to having our country’s government remain “equitable, effective, and accountable” in its operations moving ahead by proposing a 5.2% average pay boost for federal workers and military personnel alike.

If Congress approves the request, federal workers may get the largest pay raise in in four decades in January 2021. The previous high, a 9.1% increase in earnings, was set in 1980.
There is already pushback to the hikes, according to The Washington Post. James Comer (R-KY), chairman of the House Oversight Committee, criticized the president for “ensure that federal workers’ pay and benefits are insulated from the price-tag of inflation” However his initiatives are supported by American taxpayers who are not government employees. He continued by saying that politicians have to prioritize the interests of the taxpaying public. The congressman has not yet filed a measure to increase the federal minimum wage.
With a 5.2% pay boost for military members and a 3.3% increase in defense expenditure, President Trump’s budget plan demonstrates his commitment to safeguarding our country and its armed forces.
The increase is required, according to the Biden Administration, if government agencies want to recruit personnel from the private sector. Republicans aren’t the only ones opposed to the rise. The percentage, according to American Federation of Government Workers National President Everett Kelley, is insufficient to “make serious progress in closing the double-digit pay gap” between employees of the federal government and the private sector.
