Health Hazard in East Palestine!

On February 3rd, residents of the small Pennsylvania town of Border were shaken by the derailment of a train passing through their community. Official sources have said it’s safe to breathe the air and drink the water, but many people are still uneasy because of headaches and sore throats that have plagued them since the accident. Residents of this seemingly tranquil town are understandably worried about the potential health hazards lurking just below the surface.

After a hazardous train derailment released toxic chemicals, panic and uncertainty swept through East Palestine, Ohio. Authorities have planned a massive “controlled burn” of hazardous materials in response to this disaster, but locals are still on edge despite official assurances that their air quality and water sources are safe.

Thick clouds of smoke rolled into eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania last week, causing a devastating environmental disaster. Five train cars carrying vinyl chloride for use in PVC production let out a heavy emission containing the carcinogenic substance. Both states’ populations are still at risk from the dangerous chemical.

Official reports said the train derailment was not harmful, but when investigators spoke to locals and emergency personnel, they found that many of them were experiencing symptoms consistent with exposure to an unknown substance.

“The worst part about the wreck site was the horrible smell. The chemically, stinging odor was so strong my eyes started watering. It lingered all throughout town,” Carter Andrews said according to The Daily Wire.

“Crews seemed to be using a hose to suck the chemical film off the top of the water flowing through. We asked several questions but they refused to even acknowledge us,” Andrews explained.

A foul odor wasn’t the only problem for the locals; oily sheens coated the creeks and rivers, animals were dying all around them for no apparent reason, and some people even complained of health problems like sore throats and headaches.

“This is a farm town, and there’s a lot of people whose livelihood depends on those animals that they sell for whatever reason. And if they’re tainted in any way, they’re done,” DJ Yokley, a business owner in East Palestine said. “We were living the American dream that we worked so hard for, and now we’re living the American nightmare.”

“We just want answers and they’re not giving them. What’s frustrating is the EPA tells us one thing and then two hours later it’s something different,” Yokley finished.
