Mayor Eric Adams said on Monday that NYC would terminate the vaccination mandate at the end of this month as COVID-19 instances continue to decline. This development is a crucial step in bringing our beloved city back to normality!
Following its introduction in October 2021, Mayor Bill DeBlasio has stated that NYC’s vaccination requirement would no longer be in effect. In addition, he provided a cash incentive of $500 to those who received their first dosage within seven days of the deadline. The mayor emphasized that now is “right moment for this decision,” for taking such action and advised his supporters not to lose out on this chance to be immunized if they haven’t already.

“With more than 96 percent of city workers and more than 80 percent of New Yorkers having received their primary COVID-19 series and more tools readily available to keep us healthy, this is the right moment for this decision,” Adams said in the announcement. “I continue to urge every New Yorker to get vaccinated, get boosted, and take the necessary steps to protect themselves and those around them from COVID-19.”

Daycare professionals and “early child care” people are included in this optional rule; after the deadline of February 10, NYC workers and Department of Education employees will no longer be obliged to acquire a COVID-19 vaccination.
According to a formal announcement, individuals who lost their jobs for rejecting vaccinations have not been restored, despite the hopes of hundreds of workers.
“At this point, the city has fully processed and issued decisions for all pending reasonable accommodation appeals,” the announcement read. “While the approximately 1,780 former employees terminated for failing to submit proof of vaccination will not be able to automatically return to their previous positions, they will be able to apply for positions with their former agencies through existing city rules and regulations and hiring processes.”
