In a horrific incident, a doctor from California was struck by a car and then fatally stabbed by the driver. Such unnecessary human suffering will undoubtedly cause grieving in family, friends, coworkers, and community members.
Dr. Michael Mammone’s serene cycling trip along the Pacific Coast Highway on a seemingly calm Wednesday afternoon was dramatically interrupted when he was unexpectedly hit by an out-of-control white Lexus. The 58-year-old emergency room doctor from Providence Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach was forced to take the brunt of this sad situation without having time to react.

Vanroy Evan Smith, a 39-year-old guy operating his Lexus, viciously attacked Mammone by stabbing her in the back.
As he assaulted Mammone, Smith yelled ugly remarks about “white privilege,” shocking and horrifying bystanders.

Brave people around jumped in to tackle the attacker and prevent them from harming the innocent bystander when a dangerous person attacked them. The suspect is currently being held at the Orange County Intake Release Center, where their trial is set to begin on Friday.
A photograph of the incredible scene was taken; it had to be seen to be believed!

Even if the hospital was unable to save Dr. Mammone, his enormous passion to selflessness and saving lives throughout history will live on through those he touched. People all across the world are in mourning for this unique man who left us too young but left an irrefutable influence that will never be forgotten. He is a brilliant example of how one person can make a significant difference in their community.
Dr. Mammone received his medical degree from the esteemed Keck School of Medicine in 1993, and he has since been an active member of the medical community in Southern California, dedicating himself to offering care at Providence Mission Hospital since 2011 and occasionally sharing his knowledge at Mission Viejo and Children’s Hospital Orange County.
Following Mammone’s passing, Providence Mission Hospital released the following statement: “We are stunned by this devastating tragedy. The entire Mission Hospital family is grieving over the loss of an incredible physician and friend.”
“We will honor Dr. Mammone’s dedication to our community and passion for medicine by continuing to provide exceptional care.”
Additionally, the tragic death of Mammone was discussed by cardiologist Dawn Aatwal, who said, “That’s the irony of this whole thing. If a patient was brought in his condition, he would have done everything he could to save that person.”
“He has saved so many lives here, and he died very close to where he saved hundreds of lives.”
Tragically, Smith’s harsh behavior led to Mammone’s demise. Brave bystanders intervened in the confusion and panic to take on the attacker and possibly stop his rampage before it reached others. Their bravery in the face of peril was hailed by Sgt. Michael Woodruff as a deed that would not soon be forgotten.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said that there is no obvious explanation for why this awful murder occurred in a tragic and seemingly senseless situation.
