Republican Governor of Ohio Mike DeWine recently introduced legislation requiring stronger voter ID requirements in an effort to safeguard the security and accuracy of state elections. This modernizing step aims to give all Ohioans more election security in the coming years.
When casting their in-person votes, Ohioans must must provide certain types of identification. In order to reduce voter fraud throughout the state, examples include an unexpired Ohio driver’s license, state ID card, or interim form issued by the registrar of motor vehicles; a U.S. passport or passport card; and a military ID card.

The bill also establishes new guidelines for elections that county boards of elections must follow. County boards must “develop an election administration plan” as one of these requirements. that must be given to the secretary of state at least 75 days before a presidential primary, and 120 days ahead of a general election “held in an even-numbered year.”
County boards must abide by a number of stipulations in the bill to ensure proper election procedures. One of them is the design and filing of an administration plan for presidential primaries at least 75 days beforehand, with general even-year elections requiring a further 120 days of preparation before Election Day.
Before, there was still hope if you showed up to vote without a legal form of identity! Voters had the option to provide alternative identification documents, such as pay stubs or bank statements. These choices, however, are no longer available; only conventional forms of ID are now recognized.
To ensure that the 2020 election is fair and proceeds smoothly, county boards must act decisively to ensure that every vote is counted. On election day, every voting machine should undergo stringent logic and accuracy checks with each type of ballot being used to ensure that votes are accurately recorded without any difficulties. In a statement about the new piece of legislation, DeWine said, “I have long believed that Ohio does a good job of administering elections, as we have provided ample opportunities to cast votes while avoiding the problems we have seen in recent federal elections in other states.”
“I believe with the enactment of the new election integrity provisions in House Bill 458, this matter should be settled, and I do not expect to see any further statutory charges to Ohio voting procedures while I am Governor,” added DeWine.
Democrats claim that the newly proposed voting rights bill poses an excessive threat and has the potential to prejudice in our democratic process. As they protest this purported violation of a fundamental right for all American citizens, harsh words of “alarm” resound throughout their speeches.
The Left makes the claim that the new voting laws unfairly burden minority groups, the elderly, and students, which is undoubtedly a valid claim.
The election official of Ohio Voice, Camille Wimbish, has voiced worries about a proposed voter ID measure that would have unfavorable impacts on all parts of society.
“Black and brown communities have higher numbers of those communities who don’t have ID,” complained Wimbish. “This is gonna impact Black and brown voters, students, rural voters, military voters, seniors. I mean there’s really everyone who’s gonna be impacted by these substantial changes.”
Although state officials have pledged to provide free IDs to everyone who requests one, it is still unclear what exactly prevents residents from getting picture identification.
