The mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, visited El Paso, Texas, over the weekend to make the announcement that his city is now unable to host illegal immigrants. He said there was just “no room” left, while emphasizing the overcrowding at NYC’s borders and expressing compassion for their predicament.
On Sunday, NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio addressed the inaccurate claims that our city is a safe haven for illegal migrants in El Paso. He emphasized the detrimental effects of the transportations sent by Democratic Mayors Oscar Leeser and Jared Polis and Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The mayor used this chance to discuss the harmful effects that these surpluses are having on New York City.

“We have to give people accurate information and that is what some of the centers are doing here. They are truly explaining to people that this is what’s happening in New York right now. And, New York, you go there, you’re going to be living in congregate settings, there is no more room in New York. That should be coordinated by our national government, not only done locally here by those NGOs, but it should be done by our national government. That is not happening,” Adams said Sunday.
According to the New York Daily News, Adams’ migrant shelters have had to turn away a large number of frightened individuals seeking asylum because they are at capacity. These industrious people need a safe and secure place to lay their heads while they continue their trip, but tragically a vast majority now have to search elsewhere for sheltering assistance.
As a result of the humanitarian catastrophe brought on by the flood of migrants, El Paso has gained notoriety. While many people still remain in need on the city’s streets, President Joe Biden and lawmakers of both houses of Congress recently paid the city a visit to see how it is handling this challenging situation.
3,100 more unauthorized immigrants have entered New York City in the last ten days alone. The city’s resources and capacity to protect everyone’s security there are being taxed by this constant influx.
“We expect more from our national leaders to address this issue in a real way,” Adams said. “We still have over 26,000 people still in our care. We’re at the highest level of care and people who are in the care of the city of New York in history.”
