According to a memo made public by Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry of Louisiana, the White House pressured Facebook to block Fox News personality Tucker Carlson for saying COVID-19 vaccines “don’t work.”
“Since we’ve been on the phone, Tucker Carlson’s claim that vaccines don’t work is the most popular post regarding vaccines today. In an email sent to an unnamed Facebook employee on April 14, 2021, White House Director of Digital Strategy Rob Flaherty allegedly said, “Today it was Tomi Lehren [sic] claiming she won’t take one,” according to a tweet by Landry.

Eric Schmitt, the attorney general of Missouri, and Landry took the administration of Vice President Joe Biden to federal court on May 5. The lawsuit claimed that there had been cooperation between White House officials and significant social media platforms, endangering open discourse on issues like COVID-19, the 2020 presidential election, and more. This legal action was successful when, back in July, their demands were met: correspondence between those implicated needed to be produced right now! At the same time that pressure from above for answers about potential restriction of public dialogue online over these concerns mounted,
“This is exactly why I want to know what ‘Reduction’ actually looks like – if ‘reduction’ means ‘pumping our most vaccine hesitant audience with [T]ucker Carlson saying it doesn’t work’ then… I’m not sure it’s reduction!” Flaherty continued in the document released by Landry.
A mysterious Facebook employee responded to the claim by promising quick action because they were supposedly motivated to find the truth.
Landry’s post generated debate among the public since he withheld the source of his recently acquired paper.
