Voter ID Just Won Big in North Carolina

North Carolina voters have delivered a decisive message in support of election integrity, overwhelmingly approving a constitutional amendment that will enshrine photo identification requirements into the state’s governing document.

The measure passed Tuesday night with approximately 59.6 percent voting in favor and 40.4 percent opposing it, according to NBC News. The result represents a significant victory for supporters of voter identification requirements, who have long argued that verifying a voter’s identity is a basic safeguard for maintaining public confidence in elections.

With the amendment’s approval, North Carolina will formally incorporate photo identification requirements into its state constitution, making the policy considerably more difficult for future lawmakers to dismantle.
