The Justice Department is escalating its investigation into California’s voter rolls, and this time, federal prosecutors are turning their attention directly toward the election officials responsible for handling ballots in the state’s largest county.
After California refused to remove or isolate approximately 20,000 ballots that federal authorities suspect may be connected to noncitizen voters, the DOJ has issued grand jury subpoenas to employees of the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder’s Office.
The move represents a significant escalation in the growing legal battle between the Trump administration and California officials over election integrity, voter registration records, and the federal government’s authority to investigate potential violations of election law.
Federal investigators are now seeking internal communications, documents, and records detailing how Los Angeles County employees responded to the government’s demands.
