A Washington state teenager who wanted nothing more than to compete in girls’ wrestling has found herself at the center of a national legal battle over parental rights, student safety, and transgender participation in school sports.
Now, after months of fighting through the federal courts, her family is asking the United States Supreme Court to intervene before another wrestling season begins.
The dispute involves the Puyallup School District, which faces criticism over its handling of an alleged sexual assault and policies that the girl’s attorneys argue leave female athletes with little protection.
