NBA legend Charles Barkley has never been known for carefully scripted political commentary. But during a recent conversation with Chris Cuomo, Barkley delivered a blunt message about policing, prisons and Immigration and Customs Enforcement that cuts directly against some of the most aggressive positions now being promoted by progressive Democrats.
And the timing could hardly be more striking.
Barkley, who describes himself as an independent and says he has voted Democratic most of the time, rejected the idea that Americans should eliminate ICE, abolish prisons or do away with police.
“Listen, I’m an independent who’s voted Democratic most of the time,” Barkley told him. “You think that I’m going to get on TV and kill my credibility – saying every Democratic… like some of these people out here talking about no ICE, no prison.”
