A heated exchange over voter identification put Maine’s U.S. Senate race under the spotlight Tuesday, after Republican Sen. Susan Collins and Democratic challenger Troy Jackson delivered sharply contrasting answers during a rapid-fire portion of their debate.
Moderator Gregg Lagerquist asked the two candidates a straightforward question: Should voters be required to show identification when casting their ballots?
The responses could hardly have been more different.
Jackson, the Democratic nominee, gave an immediate rejection of the idea and pointed to his own experience as a working logger.
