New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani faced a furious reception from some 9/11 families and mourners after attending the annual Ground Zero remembrance ceremony — with tensions escalating further after he and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) were seen laughing during the solemn event.
For some of those gathered to remember the nearly 3,000 people murdered on September 11, 2001, Mamdani’s presence was already controversial before he arrived.
More than 110,000 people had reportedly signed a petition calling on the mayor to stay away from the ceremony.
