Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) delivered an unexpected message to a Republican crowd Wednesday night, appearing in a pre-recorded video to introduce Pennsylvania Republican Sen. Dave McCormick during the opening night of the GOP’s midterm convention in Dallas.
The appearance immediately stood out.
Fetterman, a Democrat who has increasingly positioned himself against some of the more progressive elements of his own party, appeared on the giant screens inside the American Airlines Center as Republicans gathered for the two-day event. The roughly one-minute video drew applause from the audience.
The Pennsylvania senator appeared in his trademark hoodie, with a U.S. Steel facility in western Pennsylvania serving as the backdrop. The location was identified as the Mon Valley Works, a fitting setting for a message centered on American steel and Pennsylvania’s industrial heritage.
