A North Carolina mother accused of killing her 3-year-old child and attempting to kill her 2-year-old is preparing an insanity defense — and her attorney is openly comparing the case to the closely watched Lindsay Clancy murder trial in Massachusetts.

But before prosecutors can bring her case before a jury, questions surrounding Faust’s mental competency must first be resolved.
