A Washington state school district is under renewed scrutiny after a parent alleged that her fourth-grade daughter was shown an LGBTQ-themed video in music class without advance notice or an opportunity for families to opt out.
The controversy comes at a time when parental notification policies remain a flashpoint across the country, particularly following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Mahmoud v. Taylor, which addressed parental rights involving certain school lessons related to gender identity and sexuality.
For one Edmonds mother, the discovery was enough to remove both of her children from the school.
