Pentagon Stuns Washington With New Order

The Pentagon is preparing to keep National Guard troops on the streets of the nation’s capital for the remainder of President Donald Trump’s second term, a move that would extend one of the administration’s most visible public safety initiatives through January 2029.

According to multiple reports, Defense Department officials have already completed planning for the continued deployment, with final authorization expected from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Sources familiar with the matter say approval is widely anticipated, signaling that the administration views the mission as a key component of its broader law-and-order agenda.

The operation, known as the “D.C. Safe and Beautiful Mission,” was launched in August 2025 after growing concerns over crime, public safety, and deteriorating conditions in portions of Washington, D.C. Since then, National Guard personnel have become a familiar sight throughout the city, assisting local and federal authorities in a variety of roles.
