The death of an American woman living in Ireland has sparked renewed debate over immigration policy after authorities identified a suspect described in local reports as an asylum seeker.
According to reports from Irish media, 43-year-old Jamey Carney was found dead Tuesday afternoon inside her rented home in Killarney, County Kerry. A family member reportedly discovered her body at approximately 1:20 p.m. local time. Carney had been living at the residence with her 13-year-old daughter.
Local reports describe the killing as particularly violent. The Irish Mirror reported that Carney suffered severe head injuries during the attack and that her body was later covered with a duvet. Police have launched a homicide investigation as forensic teams continue examining the scene.
