President Donald Trump declared Wednesday that he considers the U.S. ceasefire with Iran effectively over following a new wave of attacks on commercial vessels near the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking during a meeting of NATO leaders in Ankara, Turkey, Trump sharply criticized Iran’s leadership and argued that the memorandum of understanding reached last month is no longer viable. The agreement, reportedly brokered by Pakistan, had temporarily eased tensions between the two countries.
According to CBS News, Trump’s comments followed U.S. military airstrikes targeting sites along Iran’s coastline. The strikes were described as a response to Iran’s alleged role in the latest attacks on shipping in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.
