On Monday, Judicial Watch announced that the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department has released more than 1,000 hours of body-worn camera footage related to the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol breach. The material consists of 1,630 individual videos that became public following a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch in June 2024.
The newly released footage is now available through Judicial Watch’s website and is already drawing scrutiny from independent researchers, journalists, and those who have spent years examining the events surrounding January 6.
One of the first individuals to highlight a potentially noteworthy moment was January 6 defendant and investigative journalist Tommy Tatum. According to Tatum, one body-camera recording appears to capture a conversation among Metropolitan Police officers referencing FBI personnel near the Capitol that afternoon.
