Rep. Ro Khanna is facing criticism after calling for Elon Musk to be subpoenaed and investigated, even as thousands of workers connected to one of Musk’s companies reportedly saw their personal wealth surge following a major financial milestone.
The California Democrat, whose congressional district includes Tesla’s massive Fremont manufacturing facility, argued over the weekend that Musk should eventually face congressional scrutiny over his role in dismantling the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). His comments immediately sparked backlash from critics, who accused the congressman of targeting one of the country’s most successful entrepreneurs while many of his own constituents have benefited from Musk’s companies.
Khanna made the remarks during an appearance on the podcast I’ve Had It, where the conversation shifted from SpaceX’s recent success to Musk’s involvement in reshaping parts of the federal government.
