A major legal battle is unfolding over one of the most influential organizations in transgender medicine, and the outcome could have far-reaching consequences for doctors, hospitals, insurers, and policymakers across the country.
The Federal Trade Commission has filed a lawsuit against the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), alleging that the organization played a central role in promoting claims about pediatric gender-transition treatments that were not adequately supported by scientific evidence.
The case has attracted national attention because WPATH’s treatment guidelines have long been cited by medical institutions, advocacy groups, and government agencies as the foundation for gender-related care.
