For decades, American soccer fans have been told to respect the opinions of Europe’s football elite.
But during a live Fox Sports broadcast this week, one of the most accomplished players in U.S. soccer history challenged that narrative—and the reaction was immediate.
What began as a routine halftime discussion during France’s matchup against Senegal quickly turned into one of the most talked-about moments of the tournament.
Former U.S. national team star Landon Donovan didn’t hold back when evaluating France’s first-half performance.
With the match deadlocked at 0-0, Donovan offered an assessment that many viewers likely shared.
“France, arrogant, a little casual, just sort of going through the motions,” Donovan said during the halftime discussion.
