A shocking act of violence has left Hollywood mourning after veteran character actor James Handy was killed in what authorities describe as a deadly confrontation at his Southern California residence.
Handy, whose decades-long acting career made him a familiar face to generations of movie and television audiences, was 81 years old.
According to law enforcement officials, officers responded to a disturbing emergency call early Wednesday morning at a home in Tarzana, a neighborhood located in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley. When police arrived at the property, they discovered Handy suffering from a severe chest wound outside the residence.
Emergency personnel rushed the actor to a nearby medical facility, but despite efforts to save him, he later died from his injuries.
Investigators say the suspect is 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, who reportedly lived at the home with his mother. Authorities identified the woman as Handy’s longtime girlfriend.
