Trump Wins BIG: Supreme Court Drops 9-0

The Supreme Court of the United States issued a significant procedural win for the Trump administration on Tuesday, stepping in to shut down a revived legal challenge over how immigration judges are permitted to speak publicly about their work. The move effectively nullified a decision from a federal appeals court and restored an earlier ruling that had dismissed the case at the trial level.

In an unsigned order, the justices reversed the decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, reinstating a lower court judgment that had thrown out a lawsuit filed by the National Association of Immigration Judges. That lawsuit targeted a Department of Justice policy requiring immigration judges to obtain approval before participating in certain “official” speaking engagements.

At the center of the dispute is a policy that restricts immigration judges from speaking at events in their official capacity without prior clearance. This includes appearances at immigration law conferences and pro bono training sessions. However, the policy still allows judges to speak freely in a personal capacity, provided their remarks are not directly tied to immigration law or agency operations, according to the case record.
