What his crew witnessed in the Chinese capital this week was not simply aggressive traffic enforcement. It was a live demonstration of the most advanced surveillance apparatus on the planet, operating in real time with no police officer, no courtroom, and no human interaction required.
And Americans should pay very close attention.
During a segment filmed near Haidian Station, Baier pointed out the overwhelming number of surveillance cameras hanging above the streets of Beijing. Cameras covered intersections, sidewalks, storefronts, and traffic lanes from every conceivable angle.
According to Baier, there were at least twenty cameras visible from a single location.
“They see everything,” Baier told viewers of Special Report. “There’s nobody jaywalking here because they could get a ticket right away.”
Moments later, his own production crew became part of the story.
Their driver briefly stopped in a restricted area while the crew prepared equipment for filming. Within minutes, the driver reportedly received a fine directly on his phone.
No officer approached the vehicle.
