MSNBC Just Crossed the Line on Trump

MSNBC came under fire Monday after giving a Tennessee state lawmaker a national platform to label President Donald Trump a “domestic terrorist,” a move critics say was presented without critical context about the lawmaker’s political ambitions and ongoing redistricting fight in his home state.

During the segment, Tennessee State Representative Justin Pearson appeared on air with MSNBC host Chris Jansing and delivered a sharp attack on the former president, stating:

“Donald Trump is a white supremacist domestic terrorist who is seeking to destroy our democracy by any means necessary.”

Pearson did not limit his criticism to Trump alone. He also accused Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, House Speaker Cameron Sexton, and Lieutenant Governor Randy McNally of aligning with Trump in what he described as efforts to “attack black people and black representation.” The comments were aired without challenge or immediate fact-checking during the broadcast.

What MSNBC did not emphasize for viewers, however, is that Pearson is not simply an outside activist offering commentary on national politics. He is currently a candidate for Congress, actively campaigning for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives — the very district that was central to the policy debate he was discussing on national television.
