A fierce battle is brewing in Washington after renewed accusations that the federal government has quietly assembled a massive surveillance apparatus capable of tracking law-abiding gun owners across the United States.
Conservatives are sounding the alarm after reports that the Biden administration previously categorized some gun owners under the label of “Militia Violent Extremists,” while federal agencies simultaneously expanded the use of private consumer data and artificial intelligence systems.
Now, with Congress facing a key deadline on surveillance law renewal, lawmakers have only days to decide whether to rein in the system—or allow it to continue.
The Registry Officials Said Would Never Happen
For years, Americans were told the federal government could not legally create a national gun registry.
But critics now argue Washington found another way.
Instead of relying on traditional firearm paperwork like Form 4473 records, agencies are reportedly purchasing vast commercial databases containing consumer behavior, cellphone location patterns, and store visitation history.
