Fireworks erupted on Capitol Hill this week after a heated exchange between EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and longtime Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) turned into one of the most talked-about moments of the House Appropriations Committee hearing.
Zeldin appeared before lawmakers Monday to discuss President Trump’s proposed 2027 budget, which reportedly includes major reductions to the Environmental Protection Agency. The proposal would significantly shrink the agency’s spending levels if Congress signs off.
But instead of a routine budget hearing, the event quickly transformed into a dramatic confrontation when DeLauro launched into an emotional attack over climate policy.
The Connecticut Democrat accused Zeldin of abandoning the EPA’s mission and “appeasing polluters” while hiding behind what she described as economic arguments.
