A peaceful afternoon of shopping in Louisiana turned into a nightmare Thursday when gunfire suddenly exploded inside one of the state’s busiest malls, sending terrified families scrambling for safety and leaving at least 10 people wounded.
The shocking violence unfolded at the Mall of Louisiana in Baton Rouge, where authorities say shots rang out around 1:20 p.m. near the crowded food court area. In seconds, a normal shopping day became a scene of panic, confusion, and bloodshed.
According to Baton Rouge Police Chief Morse, numerous victims were transported to local hospitals. Several were reportedly in critical condition and taken into emergency surgery as doctors fought to save lives.
Law enforcement officers and emergency crews rushed to the scene in overwhelming numbers. First responders established a triage area near JCPenney while armed officers moved rapidly through the mall to secure stores, hallways, and exits.
