Shreveport Dad Killed 8 Kids After Prior Warning Ignored

Shamar Elkins is now at the center of a devastating case that is raising fresh questions about prosecutorial decisions, criminal justice leniency, and whether warning signs were ignored years before tragedy struck in Shreveport.

According to the account, Elkins was involved in a serious incident back in 2019 when he allegedly stood approximately 300 feet from a Shreveport high school and fired five rounds at a moving vehicle. Authorities at the time charged him with illegal use of weapons and carrying a firearm on school property. One of those charges was a felony that carried the potential for up to five years in prison.

However, that felony charge was later dismissed. Elkins ultimately pleaded guilty in October 2019 to the remaining weapons-related offense and received a sentence of 18 months probation instead of prison time. He was released back into the community with no incarceration.

Six years later, that decision is being scrutinized in the harshest possible light.
