President Donald Trump delivered a blistering warning to Iran on Sunday after the regime reportedly violated a ceasefire understanding and targeted civilian ships in the Strait of Hormuz, reigniting fears of a broader regional conflict.
In a lengthy Truth Social statement, Trump accused Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) of betraying prior commitments and escalating tensions by firing on international vessels traveling through one of the world’s most critical waterways.
“Iran decided to fire bullets yesterday in the Strait of Hormuz — A Total Violation of our Ceasefire Agreement! Many of them were aimed at a French Ship, and a Freighter from the United Kingdom. That wasn’t nice, was it?” the president wrote.
The remarks come as global markets and foreign governments closely monitor the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow passage long considered one of the most strategic energy chokepoints on earth. Before the conflict intensified, nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply moved through the corridor.
