A political firestorm has erupted around California Congressman Eric Swalwell after a series of disturbing allegations surfaced, including a claim of sexual assault made by a former staffer. The accusations arrive at a critical moment, as Swalwell continues to build momentum in California’s gubernatorial race, raising serious questions about timing, credibility, and political consequences.
At the center of the controversy is a former aide who alleges that Swalwell assaulted her during a 2024 incident following a night of heavy drinking in New York. The woman described a harrowing experience, claiming she lost awareness and later woke up in his hotel room with physical injuries.
“I was pushing him off of me, saying no,” the woman told CNN. “He didn’t stop,” she said.
According to her account, she later discovered bruises, cuts, and bleeding, prompting her to seek medical attention shortly after the alleged incident.
The same accuser also pointed to an earlier encounter in 2019, claiming she awoke unclothed in a hotel room with Swalwell after another night involving alcohol. She maintains she had no recollection of what took place.
