That moment came when a church security guard noticed something deeply concerning. The guard reportedly saw Mbwavi gripping what appeared to be the handle of a concealed firearm tucked into his pocket. Realizing the imminent danger, the guard acted instantly.

Court records further reveal that Mbwavi was not entirely unknown to church security. Just two months earlier, he had reportedly been asked to leave after distributing what were described as “concerning” flyers. Because of that prior encounter, security personnel were already keeping a close eye on him when he returned.
That vigilance proved critical.
The same guard who recognized Mbwavi from the earlier incident told police he observed the suspect behaving erratically, including repeatedly entering and exiting a restroom while following a pastor. The unusual pattern heightened suspicions, prompting closer observation.
As events unfolded, another pastor reportedly approached Mbwavi in an attempt to engage him in conversation. It was during this interaction that the guard noticed Mbwavi holding the grip of a pistol—an observation that triggered immediate action.
Authorities later confirmed that the revolver was loaded with six live rounds. In addition, investigators say over 100 rounds of extra ammunition were discovered inside Mbwavi’s backpack, further underscoring the severity of the threat.
Perhaps most disturbing of all, court documents indicate that Mbwavi had allegedly written a note on his phone referencing a plan to kill the very pastor he had been following throughout the building.
