Hyundai Just FIRED a Shot at Ford

A foreign automaker just stepped into America’s toughest automotive battlefield and made one thing clear: it is no longer content playing on the sidelines.

At the 2026 New York Auto Show, Hyundai pulled the cover off a rugged, no-nonsense concept SUV that immediately turned heads and raised eyebrows across the truck world. For years, the segment has been dominated by names like Ford, Ford Bronco, and Toyota Tacoma. Now, Hyundai is signaling it wants in and it is not asking for permission.

The vehicle, called the Hyundai Boulder Concept, is not another soft crossover pretending to be tough. This is a full-blown, body-on-frame machine built on a ladder-frame chassis. That design alone puts it in the same category as America’s most respected off-roaders. It is the kind of engineering choice that sends a message before the engine even starts.

Hyundai Motor Company CEO José Muñoz made that message crystal clear when he addressed the crowd. “Body-on-frame vehicles are the backbone of American work and adventure,” Muñoz said, “and we intend to compete in the midsize pickup segment with everything we have.”
