For four years, Vladimir Putin’s forces have been systematically snatching children from their families in Ukraine.
Now, Olena Zelenska, Ukraine’s First Lady, has made a striking declaration: Melania Trump may be the best chance those children have of ever coming home.
Zelenska didn’t mince words. At the current pace, she warned, it could take decades to reunite all kidnapped children with their families. And she singled out one person above all others for refusing to let the world look away.
A Deliberate Campaign, Not an Accident
This is not simply a story of displaced refugees. These children were taken intentionally.
According to Yale’s Humanitarian Research Lab, more than 19,000 Ukrainian children have been sent to over 200 facilities inside Russia and Russian-occupied territories.
Authorities stripped these children of their identities. Birth certificates were reissued with Russian names and birthplaces. They were placed in Russian families, issued passports, and entered into adoption databases — all while their parents were desperately searching for them back home.
