Sinema Seeks End to Explosive Allegation!

Former Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema is pushing back against a lawsuit in North Carolina that accuses her of having an extramarital affair with a married bodyguard during her time in office. The legal complaint was filed in Moore County, North Carolina, in September 2025 by the ex-wife of Matthew Ammel, a former member of Sinema’s security team.

The lawsuit claims that Sinema’s alleged relationship with Ammel helped trigger the collapse of the couple’s marriage. It seeks damages under North Carolina’s rarely used “alienation of affection” law, which allows a spouse to pursue civil claims against a third party accused of interfering in their marriage.

In a motion to dismiss filed this week, Sinema acknowledged she began a romantic relationship with Ammel in May 2024. “That date is significant,” her attorneys note, because Ammel did not separate from his wife until about five months later.

Despite this admission, Sinema argues the case should be dismissed on jurisdictional grounds. Her filing contends that the alleged affair occurred “exclusively outside of North Carolina,” meaning the state court has no authority to hear the matter.
