How Jalloh Got His Weapon
The gun Jalloh used came from Kenya Chapman, a man who had been caught three years earlier making straw purchases of three separate firearms. Each of those weapons later appeared at crime scenes, including one homicide.
Biden’s DOJ had Chapman in their sights. Straw purchasing is a federal felony. Three weapons. Three crime scenes. One murder weapon. And yet, Chapman was released with no charges, no jail, no prosecution—just an apology letter. Three years later, he sold a weapon that killed a war hero.
Straw Purchasing Isn’t a “Mistake”
Straw purchasing—buying a gun for someone legally barred from owning one—carries up to ten years in prison. When Chapman was caught in 2021, the evidence was clear. The weapons were recovered. The connections were established. But the Biden DOJ chose not to act.
Meanwhile, Jalloh himself was on the streets because the Bureau of Prisons released him nearly three years early in December 2024, shaving time off an 11-year terrorism sentence for attempting to provide material support to ISIS. Originally facing 20 years, federal prosecutors noted, “He plotted an attack modeled on the 2009 Fort Hood massacre.” Instead, bureaucrats cut him loose. Two administration decisions. One dead American hero.
Soros-Backed Prosecutor Blames the Wrong Targets
Norfolk Commonwealth Attorney Ramin Fatehi took the podium after the attack and decried a “national sickness” and “cult of gun absolutism,” blaming lawmakers and the Supreme Court. “If you’re looking for someone to blame, don’t look at anyone up here,” he said. “Look at our lawmakers who don’t have the courage to implement sensible gun control measures.”
Fatehi didn’t mention the killer was a convicted ISIS supporter who should have never been free. He ignored that ODU is a so-called gun-free zone, leaving unarmed ROTC cadets to stop a terrorist with knives.
Criminals don’t follow background checks. Illegal dealers ignore legislation. Yet Democrats keep pushing laws targeting law-abiding citizens, not the people who actually threaten society.
More Gun Control Won’t Stop Murderers
The Virginia Legislature recently passed new restrictions, including an Assault Weapons ban and magazine size limits. None of it would have prevented Jalloh from attacking. Only a prepared, courageous ROTC cadet stopped him—armed only with a knife in a classroom where firearms were prohibited.
Had the assailant been at a greater distance, the scene could have turned into mass murder.
The lesson is clear: Democrats aren’t serious about enforcing existing laws. They want to disarm Americans who follow the rules, while letting true threats walk free.
