Airport Chaos Erupts After Democrats’ Shutdown Move

As millions of Americans prepare for spring break trips, a growing crisis is unfolding inside the nation’s airports. What should be the beginning of the busiest travel season of the year is instead turning into a frustrating ordeal for passengers across the country.

The reason is a partial shutdown inside the Department of Homeland Security that has rippled through the aviation system. With Congress locked in a bitter budget standoff, several agencies under DHS are facing operational disruptions, including the Transportation Security Administration.

For travelers attempting to catch flights, the impact is immediate and severe. Security lines are stretching for hours in major airports, leaving families scrambling to make flights and airlines bracing for continued disruptions.

At the center of the dispute is a political fight over immigration enforcement. Some Democratic lawmakers have refused to approve funding unless sweeping changes are made to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
