Nevada Democrat Faces Reality on Shutdown

The political standoff in Washington is no longer some abstract Beltway squabble. It is now threatening to spill directly into airport terminals across America — and one Democratic senator from a tourism-heavy state is suddenly sounding the alarm.

After Democrats forced a shutdown of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security over a dispute tied to immigration enforcement — despite the fact that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement already has its funding in place — the ripple effects are beginning to show. And now, as travel programs fall into limbo, Nevada’s senior senator appears shocked at the consequences.

According to reporting from The Hill, Sen. Jacky Rosen is raising objections to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem over the possible suspension of key traveler programs administered by the Transportation Security Administration.

The programs at issue — TSA PreCheck and Global Entry — could be halted as the shutdown drags into its third week.

For Nevada, that’s no minor inconvenience.
