Joe Biden sparked outrage years ago when he told Black Americans who didn’t vote for him, “ain’t Black.” Now, California Governor Gavin Newsom – a Democrat with eyes on the White House – appears to have picked up where Biden left off.
The controversy erupted during Newsom’s book tour in Atlanta on Sunday. While speaking privately with Mayor Andre Dickens, Newsom said, “I’m like you,” before revealing a personal academic struggle: he claimed he has difficulty reading and scored a 960 on his SAT.
The clip quickly went viral. Posted by the conservative account End Wokeness, the video racked up 40 million views on X within hours, turning Newsom’s candid moment into a nationwide talking point.
Corrin Rankin, the first Black chair of the California Republican Party, didn’t hold back when asked about the remarks by Fox News Digital. “I think he just tanked himself yesterday,” she said, directly referencing Newsom’s 2028 presidential ambitions.
