For years, Democrats have insisted they are desperate to move past the failures, embarrassments, and public humiliations of the Biden era. Yet as the early jockeying for 2028 quietly begins, it appears at least one major Democrat contender is doing the opposite — actively leaning into the worst habits of the outgoing political generation.
California Governor Gavin Newsom now seems determined to revive one of former President Joe Biden’s most infamous trademarks: awkward, clumsy, and often racially tone-deaf attempts at “relating” to minority voters.
Biden’s record on this front is long and deeply uncomfortable. From his infamous 2006 remark about convenience stores and accents, to his jaw-dropping 2020 declaration on The Breakfast Club that “if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black,” the pattern has been impossible to ignore.
But one moment perhaps best summed up Biden’s worldview. Speaking in 2019, Biden infamously declared:
“Poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.”
