On Tuesday, Congress took aim at a growing concern: who is financing the violent anti-ICE protests tearing through American cities. But instead of answers, some Democrats chose confrontation over accountability.
New Jersey Democrat Andy Kim used the hearing to attack Republicans for asking questions, insisting that probing the financial backers of the chaos “delegitimizes” protesters’ anger. He labeled the investigation itself as “dangerous.”
The hearing centered on reports that foreign adversaries and international money networks are bankrolling anti-ICE riots to mask broader criminal operations. Yet Kim refused to focus on the alleged Chinese connections.
Instead, he shifted blame to Republicans. “People all over this country are frustrated and concerned and upset. They’re scared and they’re worried about things because they just saw two American citizens get killed in the street by federal agents,” he said, framing the protests as a reaction to law enforcement rather than a foreign-funded campaign.
