In a surprising show of unity, lawmakers from both parties overwhelmingly backed a sweeping housing reform package aimed at tackling the nation’s growing affordability crisis. The legislation passed by a staggering 390–9 vote, a margin almost unheard of in today’s polarized political environment.
According to Fox News, the bill — formally titled the “Housing for the 21st Century Act” — seeks to address one of the most pressing concerns facing American families: the rising cost of buying a home. From first-time buyers to working-class families, skyrocketing prices and limited supply have pushed homeownership out of reach for millions.
The bill’s primary goal is simple but ambitious: increase the supply of affordable housing nationwide. To do that, lawmakers combined several strategies into one broad package, focusing heavily on reducing bureaucratic obstacles that slow construction and drive up costs.
