Ernst Springs a Trap Fraudsters Never Saw Coming

For years, Minnesota became a gold mine for organized fraud. Fake nonprofits. Phantom childcare centers. Exploding Medicaid claims with no oversight. And all of it happened while state officials looked the other way as billions of taxpayer dollars vanished.

Now, Senator Joni Ernst has had enough.

The Iowa Republican just introduced sweeping new legislation designed to shut down the very fraud tactics that drained Minnesota’s welfare system. And this time, the trap is set before criminals can cash in.

Ernst’s proposal comes after revelations that Minnesota handed out nearly $9 billion while fraudsters ran wild and state auditors repeatedly warned Governor Tim Walz that the system was broken.

The warnings were ignored. The money flowed. And criminals feasted.

That era may be ending.

Ernst rolled out her legislation Thursday with a pointed name mocking the scammers who could not even spell “learning” on their fake daycare signage.
