In other words, if a federal agent chose to enforce immigration law under Trump, Simmons wants them blacklisted from policing jobs in her state forever.
She openly described the hiring of experienced federal officers as a threat, claiming in a press release, “In this Washington, we have worked incredibly hard to build trust between law enforcement and community.”
She warned against what she called “infiltration of ICE agents trained during the Trump Administration.”
“Infiltration.”
That is the word Simmons used to describe trained federal agents who track gang members, cartel operatives, human traffickers, and repeat criminal offenders.
A Felony Record Over Law Enforcement Experience
Simmons’ background makes the proposal even more controversial.
She was sentenced in 2011 to 30 months in prison for felony drug possession and retail theft, serving roughly 20 months behind bars. While her record was later cleared, her history is well documented.
Now, she is pushing legislation that declares federal officers unfit for public service because they enforced immigration law.
Critics say the message is clear. Criminal records can be forgiven. Enforcing Trump’s policies cannot.
Coordinated Democrat Push Expands Beyond Washington
This effort is not isolated.
In Maryland, Democrat lawmaker Adrian Boafo introduced nearly identical legislation called the ICE Breaker Act of 2026.
Both bills target the same cutoff date. Both focus exclusively on ICE agents who joined after Trump took office. Both frame Trump era immigration enforcement as uniquely dangerous.
Boafo went even further, labeling ICE agents “a lawless paramilitary front” who execute “Donald Trump’s racist immigration policies through harassment, intimidation and violence.”
He claimed they lack “the training, credentials, or character to serve and protect.”
That accusation directly contradicts reality. ICE officers undergo extensive federal vetting and regularly face some of the most dangerous criminals in the country, including cartel members and violent gang networks.
Policing Shortages Get Worse Under Democrat Policies
Law enforcement leaders warn that these bills would worsen existing police shortages.
Both Washington and Maryland already struggle to recruit officers. ICE agents often transition into local policing roles, bringing valuable experience in surveillance, investigations, and criminal interdiction.
Instead of welcoming that expertise, Democrats want it banned.
Jason Rantz of KTTH highlighted the hypocrisy, saying, “Simmons is a convicted felon who has repeatedly pushed to force people to hire felons or offer them housing. She openly advocates for hardened criminals. Yet when it comes to law enforcement hardworking Americans who don’t break the law they should be shamed and discriminated against?”
The National Police Association echoed that concern. Spokeswoman Betsy Smith explained that ICE agents would still be required to complete state academies and background checks.
But the bills do not allow that process to happen at all.
Demonizing ICE To Justify Blacklisting Officers
Simmons attempted to justify the legislation by accusing ICE of extreme misconduct.
She claimed agents have been “snatching individuals off our streets and out of our communities” and “detaining undocumented folks, student visa holders, legal green-card residents and U.S. citizens alike without cause.”
She even accused ICE of “shooting and killing legal observers in broad daylight.”
Those allegations mirror activist talking points, not verified law enforcement data.
Trump’s ICE operations have focused on criminal aliens, repeat deportees, gang members, and individuals with serious records. Minneapolis and other high profile operations targeted known offenders, not random civilians.
The Message Democrats Are Sending
The message behind these bills is unmistakable.
Enforce immigration law under Trump and Democrats will ensure you are unemployable.
Protect communities from gangs and traffickers and you will be labeled an extremist.
Serve in ICE during Trump’s presidency and a lawmaker with a felony past will decide you lack the “character” for law enforcement.
For critics, this is not about safety or qualifications. It is about punishing anyone who helped Trump secure the border.
As Democrats continue to shield criminals and attack law enforcement, proposals like this show exactly where their priorities lie.
