Comer’s Contempt Vote Rocks Washington

House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Comer revealed a shocking development Tuesday: former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have refused to comply with congressional subpoenas and have made demands that Comer called “outrageous.”

Bill Clinton was scheduled to give a closed-door deposition last Tuesday. Hillary Clinton was set to follow with her own deposition last Wednesday. Neither appeared.

Instead, the Clintons’ legal team claimed they had already provided the Committee with all relevant information regarding their connections to convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Their lawyers further argued to Politico that the House Oversight subpoenas were “not related to a valid legislative purpose” and therefore “invalid and legally unenforceable.”

Comer confirmed that contempt of Congress proceedings will begin Wednesday.

“Facing contempt of Congress, the Clintons’ lawyers made an untenable offer: that I travel to New York for a conversation with President Clinton only. No official transcript would be recorded and other Members of Congress would be barred from participating. I have rejected the Clintons’ ridiculous offer,” Comer said Tuesday.
