A stunning lawsuit now dragging a former U.S. senator into the spotlight is raising serious questions about power, privilege, and personal conduct inside Washington’s political class.
Former Arizona senator Kyrsten Sinema has been accused of engaging in an intimate relationship with a member of her security team that allegedly destroyed his marriage. The legal action, filed by the man’s wife, seeks at least $75,000 in damages and paints a deeply troubling picture of how political influence can spill into personal lives with devastating consequences.
According to the lawsuit, Matthew and Heather Ammel shared what the filing describes as “a good and loving marriage” marked by “genuine love and affection” before Sinema allegedly inserted herself into their lives. Heather Ammel claims the former senator knowingly pursued her husband despite being fully aware he was married.
The suit alleges that the relationship began after Sinema’s head of security hired Matthew Ammel in 2022, shortly after he retired from the U.S. Army. From there, Ammel became a regular presence by Sinema’s side, traveling with her to destinations that included Napa Valley, Las Vegas, and even Saudi Arabia.
