On December 20, 2024, Congress allowed federal reimbursement authority for stolen Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to lapse. That authority had allowed states to replace benefits stolen through card skimming and fraud.
Now, if benefits are stolen, victims are simply out of luck.
